Taemar complete second Lidl contract as Lidl Killingworth branch opens

Adderstone Group’s construction and facilities management specialists, Taemar Ltd have completed their second substantial contract with supermarket giant Lidl, a brand new store in Killingworth, North Tyneside.

The Killingworth store opened to the public mid-August creating around 40 jobs. It has been created using cutting edge design in line with the “Lidl of the Future” scheme which the supermarket are applying to all of their new store projects.

There are over 120 car parking spaces including spaces for disabled users and dedicated parent and child parking areas.

The state of the art Killingworth store, which is located on Comet Row on the site of the former Chan Warehouse, also aims to streamline processes, maximize efficiency and reduce its environmental impact. The building reduces the CO² emission rate by over 20% when compared with a building of the same type, size and use. This is circa 40 tonnes of CO² per year, which is equivalent to flying a jumbo jet over 700 miles. The fully glass fronted façade maximises natural daylight entering the building, whilst sensor controlled exterior sun blinds automatically operate to mitigate the effects of unwanted heat from solar gain.

The project, which began in Autumn 2016, has created over 200 construction jobs throughout its duration, with subcontract work being included in the package.

Kevin Patrick, Managing Director of Taemar Limited said: “This is our second successful store delivery for Lidl. It has again been a pleasure to work closely with the Lidl team to construct this new store. We’re proud to add this significant project to our portfolio. Well over 80 per cent of labour personnel has come from the local area, providing a significant boost to the local economy.

“Delivery of this development is further proof of Taemar’s ambitions to grow and develop even further in the coming years.”

Taemar Ltd will shortly be embarking on their third project with Lidl, this time in Richmond, North Yorkshire, which will see the multi-million pound conversion of a former Coop store which is located in a conservation area in the town. The works are due to start at the end of August with completion in December 2017.
