Work started on site very recently at the new Lidi Killingworth branch which will be a brand new store, located in Comet Row at the Stephenson Industrial Estate.

This second contract win follows Taemar Ltd’s appointment to build a new Lidl store at Cowpen Road in Blyth, Northumberland. The project has made significant progress with the store set to open before the end of the year.

The Lidl Blyth store is beginning to take shape (Sept 16).

Taemar Ltd, formerly known as Adderstone Construction Ltd and a subsidiary of Adderstone Group, have been appointed to undertake the full design and build of the new ‘Lidi of the future’ Killingworth store in a turnkey project.

Up to 200 construction related jobs will be created throughout the build process and 40 new jobs will be created at the Lidl branch on completion.

The new store layout will be 2470m2 including a sales area of 1424m2. There will be 128 car parking spaces and 9 parking spaces for those with disabled badges as well as dedicated parent-and-child parking.

The new store is set to open in Spring 2017.

Along with its cutting edge design, the new Lidl store will go a step further to streamline processes, maximise efficiency and reduce its environmental impact. The building reduces the CO2 emission rate by over 20% when compared with a building of the same type, size and use; that is circa 40 tons of CO2 a year, which is equivalent to flying a jumbo jet over 700 miles. The fully glass fronted façade maximises natural daylight entering the building, whilst sensor controlled exterior sun blinds automatically operate to mitigate the effects of unwanted heat from solar gain.

Lidl UK’s Regional Head of Property, David Murphy, commented: “There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and it’s great that we are now in a position to break the ground and start the build. We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far, and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we enter this next phase of the development.”

On the back of the Lidl contract wins and a number of other significant contracts, Taemar has recently expanded its premises in the North East, opening a new office to support its continued growth.

The team has moved to a new, larger office space at Maling Court in Ouseburn, as well as taking on a number of new office and site staff. New staff members include Natalie Scott, Quantity Surveyor, Kevin Patrick, Contracts Manager and Michelle Vogel as Office Manager, helping communications between the in-house team, staff on site and external contractors.

Taemar Ltd’s Managing Director, Rob Wilson said: “To win this contract so soon after our appointment at Blyth has been a fantastic achievement and testament to the confidence Lidl have in the Taemar team.

“We are delighted to be working with Lidl on what is an important development for Killingworth and a significant contract win for Taemar Ltd.

“We will be working with a number of key businesses on subcontract packages and are confident that well over 75 per cent of labour personnel will come from the local area, providing a significant boost to the local economy.”

“This development, along with our expansion to larger offices, is further proof of Taemar’s ambitions to grow and develop even further in the coming years.”
