Adderstone Group's construction specialist and subsidiary business, Taemar Ltd, have secured a contract to build a new Lidl store in Blyth.
The appointment marks a major development for Taemar Ltd after winning a competitive tender process to build a new branch of the popular grocery store chain. Until 2015, Taemar Ltd were formerly known as Adderstone Construction Ltd and are a subsidiary of Adderstone Group.
The announcement sees the supermarket giant replace its existing outlet on the former Bates Colliery site on Cowpen Road in Blyth, with a building double the size on additional land at the site.
Up to 200 construction related jobs will be created throughout the build process and 10 new jobs will be created at the Lidl branch on completion.
Taemar Ltd have been appointed to undertake the full design and build of the new store in a turnkey project, with the much of the works split into subcontract packages.
The new store layout will be 2,470m2 including a sales area of 1,424m2. There will be 134 car parking spaces and seven parking spaces for those with disabled badges as well as dedicated parent-and-child parking.
Work will start on site at the start of this month and the new store is set to open before the end of the year.
Along with its cutting edge design, the ‘Lidl of the Future’ store will also go a step further to streamline processes, maximise efficiency and reduce its environmental impact. The building reduces the CO2 emission rate by over 20% when compared with a building of the same type, size and use; that is circa 40 tons of CO2 a year, which is equivalent to flying a jumbo jet over 700 miles. The fully glass fronted façade maximises natural daylight entering the building, whilst sensor controlled exterior sun blinds automatically operate to mitigate the effects of unwanted heat from solar gain.
Lidl UK’s Regional Head of Property, David Murphy, commented: “We could not be more delighted to have received planning permission, and look forward to getting started on construction with Taemar. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their continued support, and very much look forward to opening our doors and offering our fresh, quality, great value products in the not too distant future.”
Taemar Ltd’s Managing Director, Rob Wilson said: “We are delighted to be working with Lidl on what is an important development for Blyth and a significant contract win for Taemar Ltd.
“This announcement marks a major step forward in the development of Taemar. We’re excited to be working with an established and respected blue chip client after what was a very competitive pitch process. We’re looking forward to starting on site and see this as the first of many considerable tenders in the pipeline that will enable the business to grow extensively in the coming months.
“We will be working with a number of key businesses on subcontract packages and are confident that well over 75 per cent of labour personnel will come from the Northumberland area, providing a significant boost to the local economy.”
