Quantity Surveying or Construction Management Placement 2019/20

Taemar are Adderstone Group’s specialist in-house construction company, looking to give a placement opportunity to a student from either a Quantity Surveying or Construction Management degree course, to work on a construction pipeline of work in and around the Newcastle area and further afield.

 

Our office is located in Ouseburn, Newcastle, and has over 50 staff across all divisions in Adderstone Group including; development, legal, marketing and commercial estates. This mix of disciplines creates an educational and supportive environment and will give the successful candidate the chance to work closely with a variety of different people and roles, developing their own skills, as well as gaining experience from people outside Taemar.

 

The successful candidate will be requested to undertake a wide range of construction related duties as detailed below:

 

  • Preparation of sub-contract packages for competitive tender enquiries, evaluation of returned tenders.
  • Preparation of building material schedules which are sent out for competitive tender. Evaluation of returned tenders.
  • Liaison with site managers to ensure materials are scheduled and ordered to site requirements and timings.
  • Liaison with utility companies with regards to new contract supplies.
  • Assist the Senior Quantity Surveyor in the checking of sub-contract invoicing.
  • Attendance at pre-start meetings with sub-contractors to discuss programme of works etc.
  • Ensuring that all current drawings are filed on both the electronic and hard copy systems, and that all revisions are copied and issued to site.
  • Liaison with Builders Merchants to order miscellaneous small items of materials and plant e.g. PPE.
  • Liaison with clients and client representatives regarding scheduling and completion of snagging items.
  • Assist in collating cost information to produce final account statements.
  • Perform any other general administrative duties, as required.

 

The prospective candidate must be from a construction related degree course.

They will gain first-hand experience and be able to see their work make a difference. They should be able to work well under pressure and use their own initiative to gain as much as they can from this experience.

Support will always be available and the candidate will be encouraged to develop their professional and personal skills, with invaluable experience to be gained for their career and construction related degree qualification.
