Sustained by dedicated volunteers, these clubs provide safe and inclusive spaces where young people can develop skills and form lasting connections. Supporting grassroots sport is not only an investment in physical wellbeing, but in the long-term strength and cohesion of local communities.
Action
In September 2024, Adderstone Foundation provided support worth over £10,000 to Whitley Bay & Tynemouth Hockey Club, located close to Adderstone Living’s Laurel Cove development in North Shields.
The contribution delivered a comprehensive package of improvements, including new kit and equipment for players across the club- such as hockey sticks, kit bags and training resources, alongside key facility upgrades. These included pitch rope, outdoor goals, repairs to the pitch dugout, a fully equipped first aid kit and a state-of-the-art pitch-side defibrillator to enhance player safety.
The support was designed to strengthen both the playing experience and the club’s infrastructure, while recognising the ongoing commitment of the volunteers who keep the club running.
Impact
The investment has strengthened the club’s ability to provide a high-quality, safe and inclusive environment for players at all levels. With improved equipment and enhanced facilities, members can continue to train and compete with confidence, supported by the resources needed to develop their skills.
Beyond immediate improvements, the contribution helps secure the club’s long-term sustainability- enabling it to grow, attract new players and continue serving as an important hub for the local community.
