In 2006 Adderstone Group completed the conversion of Grade II listed, historic Thomas Bewick House into 18 impressive city centre apartments, each completely unique, along with a leisure space and restaurant area plus a cinema room in the basement.
Throughout the process, meticulous care and attention was paid to ensure the development incorporated many of the original period features of the beautiful and famous building which had been the workshop of world-famous engraver and author Thomas Bewick.
The external facade of the building was retained and cleaned whilst the internal building was transformed.
To this day, the development includes several permanent displays of artwork commissioned as a tribute to Thomas Bewick, the world’s most famous wood engraver whose workshop was originally located on-site.
Thomas Bewick House is located a short walk from Newcastle Central Station and is one of the first buildings visitors to the city by train witness as they leave the station.
It is also highly accessible by public transport including bus and Metro and a short drive to the A184, linking in turn to the A1.
Jesmond Exchange is a residential conversion of a former 1949 telephone exchange in Jesmond, Newcastle, transformed by Adderstone Construction into loft-style apartments through extensive reconfiguration, structural works and building services upgrades within a retained art deco industrial setting.
