Adderstone Civils carried out critical civil infrastructure works across the Port of Tyne, one of the UK’s most innovative and efficient deep-sea ports, handling cargoes across five continents.

The project included the installation of a dedicated drone landing slab, clearance of cable culverts, replacement of concrete hardstanding, and remedial works to a 5m-high heritage retaining wall, delivering a combination of hardstanding, drainage, and structural infrastructure to support ongoing operations and future expansion.

Scope of Works:

  • Drone landing slab installation and associated enabling works (including BWIC and perimeter fencing)
  • Cable culvert clearance and below-ground service preparation
    Concrete hardstanding breakout and sectional replacement works
  • Installation of construction joints and surface finishes
  • Structural remedial works to heritage retaining wall, including steel buttressing, arch propping, crack stitching, and coping replacement

 

Drone Slab Installation & Channel Clearance

Delivering critical works at South South Shields, the project included the installation of a dedicated drone landing slab and the clearance of cable culverts, providing a robust foundation for operational activity and preparing the site for future expansion.

Works were carefully sequenced to maintain safe site access while achieving precise slab construction, supporting infrastructure installation, and culvert clearance. Completed between January and February 2026, the project provided durable, compliant infrastructure ready for operational deployment and future development, demonstrating Adderstone Civils’ ability to plan and execute complex civil engineering works efficiently and reliably.

Inter Passenger Terminal

Adderstone Civils delivered remedial and replacement works within the operational areas of the Inter Passenger Terminal at North Shields for Port of Tyne. The project reinforced critical hardstanding areas to ensure durability and operational continuity in a live terminal environment.

The works were executed with careful sequencing to maintain terminal operations while delivering precise, long-lasting concrete solutions. Completed in November 2025, the project strengthened key operational areas, reflecting Adderstone Civils’ principle-driven approach and commitment to quietly ambitious, technically robust infrastructure solutions.

Retaining Wall Remedial Works 

Successfully delivered remedial works to the 5m-high heritage retaining wall at Holborn Road for Port of Tyne. The scheme strengthened the wall and associated structures, addressing structural vulnerabilities while preserving its historic character.

The works were executed through a precise sequence of propping, reinforcement, and masonry restoration, ensuring structural stability at every stage. Completed in September 2025, the project reinforced the wall to meet current safety standards, demonstrating Adderstone Civils’ commitment to principled engineering and delivering quietly ambitious solutions in heritage contexts.
