Jesmond Exchange is a residential conversion of a former 1949 telephone exchange building in Jesmond, Newcastle, now reimagined as high-quality loft-style apartments within an art deco industrial setting.
Originally acquired by Adderstone Group in 2008, the building was extensively redeveloped by Adderstone Construction, transforming the former office and exchange floors into a series of modern apartments.
Works involved significant internal reconfiguration, including the formation of new mezzanine levels and structural alterations to support the new residential layouts. A full upgrade of building services was also delivered throughout, bringing the property up to modern residential standards.
Care was taken to retain and celebrate the building’s industrial character, with exposed beams, steelwork and original architectural features integrated into the finished apartments. High-quality kitchens, bespoke fitted furniture and refined internal finishes were introduced to sit alongside the retained fabric of the building.
Delivered with careful attention to existing structure and detailing, Jesmond Exchange balances heritage and modern living, creating a distinctive residential scheme that respects the building’s history while adapting it for contemporary use.
