Adderstone Civils undertook critical structural remedial works at HMP Northumberland for MJF Group, addressing failed RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) units within a live prison environment. The works strengthened the facility’s structural integrity while allowing operations to continue safely.
Scope of works:
- Structural concrete repairs to compromised RAAC panels
- Installation of retrospective foundations and support piers
- Installation of structural steelwork to stabilize and support failed units
- Coordination with prison operations to maintain safety and access throughout
Works were carefully phased to maintain full operational access and comply with strict safety protocols within the live prison environment. Each stage was planned to minimise disruption while ensuring that interventions met strict regulatory standards. Works included detailed assessment of existing RAAC elements, bespoke design solutions for retrofitted supports, and precision installation of structural steel and concrete elements.
Completed in December 2025, the project significantly improved the resilience of the prison’s infrastructure, providing durable, compliant solutions to critical structural vulnerabilities.
