Safe, clean and dignified living conditions are fundamental to a child’s health, wellbeing and development. For vulnerable children, particularly those without stable homes, access to basic sanitation is not just essential- it is critical to their safety, dignity and quality of life.
Without proper facilities, the risks to health increase significantly, affecting not only physical wellbeing but also confidence, routine and the ability to thrive in a supportive environment.
Action
In April 2024, Adderstone Foundation delivered a full renovation of the toilet and shower facilities at the Fountain of Hope Street Orphanage in Lusaka, Zambia.
The project involved the complete refurbishment of essential sanitation infrastructure, transforming outdated and inadequate facilities into safe, hygienic and functional spaces. This intervention was designed to directly address critical needs within the orphanage and improve daily living conditions for the children in its care.
Impact
The renovation has had an immediate and meaningful impact, significantly improving hygiene standards and creating a safer, more dignified environment for hundreds of vulnerable children.
By upgrading these essential facilities, the project supports Fountain of Hope’s mission to provide not just shelter, but a stable and nurturing environment where children can feel secure and cared for.
Beyond the physical improvements, the enhanced facilities contribute to better health outcomes, increased wellbeing and a stronger foundation for the children’s daily lives- ensuring they have access to the basic conditions needed to grow, develop and thrive.
