Passion
For young people, sport can provide the structure, discipline and encouragement that helps them grow both physically and mentally.
Community boxing clubs in particular often play an important role, offering young people a place to channel energy, learn respect and develop confidence under the guidance of experienced coaches.
Action
In 2015, the Adderstone Foundation supported Dunston Boxing Club, helping the club continue its work training and mentoring young athletes in the local community.
The club provides regular coaching sessions where children and teenagers can learn the fundamentals of boxing while benefiting from the supportive environment created by dedicated coaches and volunteers.
Impact
According to coach Michael Smith, boxing training offers young people far more than physical exercise.
“Boxing training for children can help them excel in physical fitness, balance and coordination as well as mental wellbeing and motivation. It’s been great seeing the children grow from strength to strength and build up their skills and confidence.”
Through clubs like Dunston Boxing Club, young people are given the opportunity to develop discipline, resilience and self-belief, qualities that extend well beyond the gym.
