Partnering with believe housing, Adderstone Living is delivering a £8.3m affordable homes development in Stanhope, County Durham. Due for completion by summer 2027, the scheme will provide 32 homes – a mix of four large 4-bed detached houses and 28 2 and 3-bed semi-detached homes and bungalows – available for social rent, Rent to Buy and shared ownership.

Funded through the Homes England Affordable Homes Programme 2021-2026, the scheme began on site in October 2025 with a 70-week build programme, working to a design by Blake Hopkinson. The development includes 16 homes for social rent – the most affordable tenure available – with the remainder split between Rent to Buy and shared ownership, giving local people routes into home ownership as well as affordable renting.
Located in the market town of Stanhope in Weardale, the scheme responds directly to rural housing need in County Durham, an area where recent believe housing developments have attracted significant demand. The development was shared as part of Rural Housing Week in July 2026, and Bishop Auckland MP Sam Rushworth visited the site during construction to see progress first-hand, welcoming the scheme’s mix of house types, energy efficiency and support for regional jobs.
This scheme reflects the way we approach delivery across all our projects – getting the fundamentals right, building with care, and staying mindful of the community the homes will serve. At Stanhope, that meant designing homes that fit naturally into a rural setting while giving residents genuinely affordable, energy-efficient places to live.
