Online food delivery service prepares for growth with move to larger premises

A North East based digital food and drink ordering specialist is preparing for future growth with a move to larger premises at Adderstone Group’s Baker’s Yard business park in Gosforth.

The FoodHouse, a food delivery service to rival Just East and run by North East entrepreneurs and web designers, David Duff and Roger Byrne, has opened a new 1300 sq. ft office at the redeveloped Baker’s Yard, in Gosforth, Newcastle, which will be home to their growing team of nine staff.

The FoodHouse has been running for just over two and a half years, offering a standout digital ordering service to restaurants and takeaway venues and taking a much smaller percentage cut of orders than many of its competitors, making it much easier for restaurants and takeaways to access their services without significantly decreasing business margins.

The FoodHouse represents restaurants and takeaways across the UK and acts on behalf of clients from Alnwick to Portsmouth. Currently 90% of their client list is located in the North East but the team have targets to extend their presence across the UK to 1000 takeaways and restaurants by the end of 2021 and they are confident that the new office, as well as recent specialist appointments in business development and tech, will enable The FoodHouse to achieve their growth goals.

In addition to the services provided by The FoodHouse, in recent months the team have also been investing time to extend their ‘Tablepay’ feature, a COVID-friendly addition to their websites and apps which enables customers to pay for services in restaurants in a safe and socially distanced environment without the need for cash handling or card payments in person.

David Duff, co-owner of The FoodHouse said: “The business has undergone significant growth this year and we knew we needed new premises to facilitate the rapid expansion. Indeed, we are lucky to be in one of the sectors that has managed to continue to flourish throughout the pandemic as the number of people ordering food directly to their homes has increased.”

Roger Byrne, co-owner added: “Baker’s Yard was the right location for us. The history of the site isn’t lost on us as a business in a food related industry.

“Our business model is geared around giving independent businesses a platform through which to market their offer in a cost-effective way and the team are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead to continue our growth.”

Baker’s Yard is a creative business hub located on the site of the original Greggs Bakery. The site, which is owned and managed by Adderstone Group, is nearing completion having undergone significant redevelopment.

Charlie Harkness, Commercial Estates Surveyor at Adderstone Group said: “The FoodHouse has such a great business model, providing a fair, cost effective solution for their clients and consumers. We’re delighted we could accommodate them in one of the last few suites at Baker’s Yard. We wish David, Roger and their growing team the best of luck in their new home.”
