Property Development Division

Local Regeneration

Adderstone believes in supporting and improving the quality of life of the communities in which it operates.

By focusing its activities in such a small geographical area, the company has developed an excellent understanding of local needs and endeavours to ensure its property development activity has a positive influence on the living and working environments of the local community.

Adderstone is also becoming synonymous with the conservation of local heritage. Its development at the Tyne Theatre included a salvage operation which secured the future of the world's last remaining working Victorian Theatre, an operation funded entirely by Adderstone with no public money.

Another project, which saw the conversion of the former Port of Tyne authority offices in Bewick House into 18 apartments was completed by Adderstone commissioning a permanent exhibition of Thomas Bewick's artwork, as the building is on the site of the world's most famous wood engraver's workshop.

In addition the Group's planned development of the Austin and Pickersgill ship yard into offices will see the company honour the site's heritage as one of the most famous ship building names in the world. Adderstone plan to do this with plaques, artwork and by naming buildings and streets after ships that were built there.
